SEIU PA State Council Endorses Merkl-Gump for SD 16

(Perkasie, Pa.) — State Senate candidate Bradley Merkl-Gump today announced he has been endorsed by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) PA State Council, one of the largest labor unions in the country, representing healthcare workers, service employees, and public sector workers across Pennsylvania.

SEIU represents tens of thousands of workers throughout the Commonwealth, including nurses, home care providers, janitors, and public employees, workers who are essential to keeping communities running and who have been at the forefront of the fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and access to affordable healthcare.

“SEIU members are the backbone of our communities,” said Merkl-Gump. “They care for our loved ones, keep our hospitals running, and make sure our public services work every day. I believe that healthcare is a human right and SEIU workers are essential to delivering it. I’m honored to have their support as we fight to raise wages, expand access to healthcare, and build an economy that works for everyone—not just those at the top.”

“SEIU Pennsylvania State Council is proud to stand with Bradley Merkl-Gump because he has spent his career as a champion for working people, both in our classrooms and in our communities. Pennsylvania deserves a Senator who will raise the minimum wage so our workers can have the dignity and respect they deserve. Bradley will do just that, plus fight to tax billionaires to fund our public schools, deliver healthcare to all and ensure affordable housing for working families. Now, more than ever, we need a Senator who will champion an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy. That Senator’s name is Bradley,” said a statement from SEIU PA State Council.

Merkl-Gump, a public school teacher and school board member, has centered his campaign on lowering costs for working families, strengthening public services, and ensuring workers have the protections and benefits they deserve.

The endorsement reflects SEIU’s confidence in Merkl-Gump’s commitment to pro-worker policies, including raising the minimum wage, establishing paid family and medical leave, and protecting access to quality, affordable healthcare.

With support from organized labor and growing momentum across the district, Merkl-Gump’s campaign continues to build a broad coalition focused on economic fairness and opportunity.

“I’ll always stand with workers who are fighting for dignity, respect, and a fair shot,” Merkl-Gump added. “Together, we can move Pennsylvania forward.”
